Cross-channel swimmer dies

The funeral of the first Irishman to swim the english Channel, Ted Keenan, is to be celebrated in Co Fermanagh today.

Mr Keenan, from enniskillen, died on Tuesday. he was a renowned open water swimmer who was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming hall of Fame. he swam the channel in 1972 in a time of 18 hours 11 minutes. Mr Keenan was also the first person to swim both the North Channel, english Channel and Bristol Channel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am today in St Michael's Church, enniskillen.
