Neighbours silent in solidarity with family

THE family home of Michaella Mc-Collum Connolly appeared deserted yesterday as relatives took in the enormity of her detention in a Peruvian jail.

While a car was parked outside and a window was slightly ajar, no-one answered several knocks to the door of the small semi-detached property in the Cloneen area of Dungannon.

It has been reported that Ms McCollum Connolly had also been living in the Crumlin Road area of Belfast before travelling to Ibiza in mid-June.

It is understood that the family had only recently moved to the estate on the outskirts of Dungannon.

But it appears that despite the relatively short time living in the area that neighbours were keen to show their solidarity with the family.

People living in the same newly built development of around 30 houses were fiercely protective of the family's privacy.

Most refused to speak about what had happened to the young nightclub hostess in Peru.

Several said that they had been asked by her family not to say anything about her or to disclose where exactly they lived in the estate.

"I'm saying nothing," said one woman.

"The family have asked us to say nothing so I want to respect that."

Another woman also shook her head and declined to say anything about the family.

"I'd prefer not to say anything, the family want to be left alone."

In a nearby shop newspapers on the counter showed Ms McCollum Connolly's smiling face on the front page.

But employees declined to say anything about her.

One woman did say "Michaella's well known in this area - her brother Sammy used to work in here".

But she refused to be drawn on anything further.
