THREE fishermen were rescued yesterday off the south east coast of the Republic after their boat capsized. RNLI crews were called to the scene at Tramore Bay off Co Waterford. A six-metre half-decker boat the anglers were using at the time had capsized with four men on board half way between Brownstown Head and Rhinashark. One of the men managed to swim ashore while lifeboat crews from Tramore picked up the remaining three who were clinging to the upturned boat. One of the three was airlifted off the lifeboat by the Coast Guard and taken to hospital to be treated for suspected hypothermia. It is believed the men were in the water for up to a half an hour before they were rescued. "I am relieved that all four men are safe after their boat capsized," RNLI lifeboat operations manager Derek Musgrave said. "They were wearing life jackets which provided the necessary buoyancy to keep them afloat while they clung to the upturned vessel."
