Gardai appeal to commuters over fatal shooting

Commuters may hold the key to identifying the killer of a man shot dead in Dublin's latest gangland killing. the 27-year-old was walking along a

green area at Grand Canal View in the Kilmainham area of Dublin when he was approached by an armed attacker at around 10.30am yesterday. the victim was shot once in the chest before the gunman fled the scene in a waiting car, which was later discovered burnt-out in nearby rialto Court.

It is believed that a weapon found in the vehicle may have been used in the killing. the firearm was taken to Garda headquarters for forensic testing.

emergency services arrived quickly at the scene but were unable to save the man's life. the dead man was known to gardai and had a number of drugs-related convictions. Investigators believe that he was targeted because of a drug debt.

Gardai appealed for anyone who was in the area of Dry Canal Bed and rialto Court between 10am and 11am to contact the incident room in Kilmainham. they also urged commuters who may have been on the Luas tram at the time or who were in the vicinity of the Luas stops at Fatima or suir road to speak to investigators in case they saw anything that might help the murder probe.

Garda Commissioner martin Callinan said he was confident that those behind the gun attack would be brought to justice.
