Sinn Fein in leadership call after petrol bombs

SINN Fein has called for "clear leadership" from unionists after up to five petrol bombs were thrown at a Catholic home on an east Belfast interface. three of the petrol bombs landed at the rear of the premises in Strand Walk and two at the front during the attack, which took place at around 11.30pm on Sunday.

No-one was injured and no damage was caused to the property.

Councillor Niall o Donnghaile said he had been alerted to the attack by "distressed" residents. the latest incident comes days after a four year-old girl suffered minor injuries after a petrol bomb was thrown over a peace wall at Bryson Street. the councillor said: "Strand Walk is an area with a mixture of family homes as well as specially adapted bungalows for elderly and disa-bled members of our community.

"Last night's attack could have had tragic consequences. It is past time that we heard clear leadership from political unionism in relation to these issues. Leaders need to lead." mr o'Donnghaile said he "took heart" from the cross-community meeting that took place between residents last week but said work needed to continue.
