Pair accused of sham wedding

A BRIDE and groom have been remanded in custody accused of taking part in a sham marriage in Belfast.

Algerian national Faredj Hamlat and Lorraine O'Brien were arrested at the alleged bogus ceremony in Belfast City Hall on Tuesday.

Mr Hamlat (26), of no fixed address, is charged with seeking to obtain leave to enter or remain in the UK by means of deception.

Ms O'Brien (30), believed to be from the Republic, is accused of attempting to assist unlawful immigration by taking part in a sham marriage.
