Fire in quarry

? SMOKE: A gorse fire was ablaze on Belfast's Black Mountain last night. Large plumes of smoke could be seen from across the city. A spokesman for the fire service said the fire was in a quarry and was not a threat to any homes in the area. He said fire crews had gone to the scene but could not access the quarry. Meanwhile, fire crews fought to bring a large gorse fire under control in Pomeroy, Co Tyrone, yesterday.

The blaze broke out in the Keerin Road area at around 11.30am and spread across 60 acres of gorse. Fire service group commander Paddy Gallagher said: "With this spell of dry weather the likelihood of gorse fires increases. I would urge people to stay vigilant if they are out and keep safe."
