Meehan case jury sworn in

A JURY was sworn in yesterday to hear the trial of a former Sinn Fein councillor accused of abusing her step-daughter.Eight men and four women will hear the case against Briege Meehan (66), the widow of leading republican and former councillor Martin Meehan.Briege Meehan, from Elmfield Street in north Belfast, is accused of four counts of gross indecency, one of attempted gross indecency, two of indecent assault and one of child cruelty against her stepdaughter Mary Watson over 15 months between July 1979 and October 1980.The trial, which is expected to last until Friday of next week, will start today. ?
