Apple has confirmed its next special event will take place on September 15, where the tech giant is likely to announce several versions of the iPhone 12.

This year’s iPhone is expected to be the first to support 5G.

“Please join us for a special Apple Event from Apple Park. Watch it online at apple.com,” the official invite from the tech giant says.

Early reports suggest the event could see Apple announce as many as four new versions of the iPhone, as well as a new generation Apple Watch.

There have also been suggestions a new iPad Air could be among the new devices unveiled, as well as new Apple-branded headphones and a new version of the HomePod smart speaker.

A release date is also likely to be confirmed for the next wave of Apple software, such as iOS 14, which were previewed earlier in the summer.

However, some analysts have suggested the event could in fact be used to only announce a new Apple Watch and iPad, with the iPhone 12 announcement to be made at a later date.

Earlier this year during an earnings call, Apple said it expected “supply to be available a few weeks later” than its traditional September release date, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Apple has confirmed that the event will take place via a live stream because of Covid-19, which would make it the first major hardware announcement from the company to take place entirely virtually.

However, the company did hold its annual developer conference, WWDC, virtually earlier this year, where it showed off planned software updates.
