A smart countertop oven that is able to identify the type of food placed inside and cook it at the best temperature and time has been revealed by Whirlpool.

Food identification technology is used to automatically recognise the type of food and its starting temperature, whether it is fresh or frozen.

The 799 dollar appliance (around £627) comes with a number of advanced features, including a live look-in option, using a camera to allow owners to take a glimpse of their meal from a mobile device. The app also provides alerts on the cooking status.

A smart food thermometer is able to carry out an “internal doneness test” which checks whether food is cooked all the way through.

Eleven cooking modes are available – bake, broil, roast, toast, reheat, proof, dehydrate, air-fry, slow cook, convection cook or keep warm.

WLabs, Whirlpool’s innovation division, has been showing the Smart Countertop Oven at CES this year, tech’s biggest annual conference held in Las Vegas, ahead of its release later this year.

Like many technologies on display in 2019, the smart oven has built-in Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant capabilities, meaning users can use their voice to control it.
