The official Super Mario Bros encyclopedia, covering the first 30 years of the gaming franchise, has gone on sale outside Japan for the first time.

The coffee table book contains in-depth details on the characters, levels, glitches and development process of 17 Super Mario games.

The book also includes an interview with producer Takashi Tezuka and tips on how to find coins, stars, suns and mushrooms across the different games.

There are both standard and limited edition versions of the encyclopedia available – the limited edition comes in a special slipcase as well as in one of four limited edition covers which are sent out at random.

The only downside to the vast gathering of knowledge is that it ends in 2015, meaning more recent Mario history, such as the launch of Nintendo Switch title Super Mario Odysessy last year, is not included.

The new book is available online, starting at 40 US dollars – around £31.
