OBSESSIVELY checking your phone is the top turn off on a first date according to a survey of single people in Northern Ireland.

Drinking too much and not being polite to waiting staff were also rated as dating faux pas.

Those aged 25-34 were the most offended by a date who is glued to their phone with 85% giving it as a reason not to meet the person again.

For women the least appealing trait is a date staring at their phone mid-conversation (74%), while 69 per cent of men said they hated it when someone takes a lot of selfies.

Ulster Bank surveyed 1,000 adults last month.
