Google is continuing its birthday celebrations with a new Google Street View Easter egg that enables users to step inside the garage where the company began life.

The internet giant has added to Street View the disused garage of Susan Wojcicki – now YouTube chief executive – which was the original office of Google and co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

“To celebrate Google’s 20th birthday, today we invite you to travel back in time and take a virtual stroll through the original Google Garage in Street View — (almost) just like it was 20 years ago,” a blog post said.

The virtual tour is littered with items linked to the company’s history, including old website layouts on display on computers and whiteboards paying tribute to logo changes.

“As you walk through the garage’s side door, you’ll note a familiar Search box on an old ‘CRT’ computer monitor held up by a wooden workhorse table with yellow legs,” the blog post adds.

“Larry and Sergey were particularly thrilled that use of the washing machine and dryer was included in their rent.”

The tour includes a secret trap door which leads to what the company calls a “secret Easter egg” world of items from the firm’s history.

As part of its 20th birthday celebrations, which have been going on throughout the month, Google has published a special edition Google Doodle complete with a video highlighting popular searches from the last 20 years, and on Monday announced a range of updates to its search engine.
