Nintendo has used the opening of Gamescom to roll out a handful of new trailers for forthcoming games, including the much anticipated Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

The Japanese firm also released a new teaser of 2019 game Daemon X Machina, a Nintendo Switch game where players take on missions in giant, customisable mech suits called Arsenals.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which is due to be released in December on the Switch, brings together one of the largest rosters of famous gaming characters to face off in a fighting game.

It is one of the most anticipated Switch launches of the year thanks to its extensive character list, which includes the likes of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda hero Link.

The new footage released by Nintendo for gaming convention Gamescom shows a recent addition to the line-up, King K. Rool, taking on Metal Gear Solid protagonist Solid Snake.

A game already released, Mario Tennis Aces, is gaining a new face too, with Diddy Kong joining the game initially in the title’s online tournament in September.

Once the tournament is complete at the end of that month, he will unlock for all players.

Away from games, Nintendo also announced that InkyPen, an app for reading digital comics and graphic novels, will launch on the Switch console in November.

The subscription-based service will enable users to read as much as they want for a single monthly fee.
