A new trailer for the next Call of Duty game has confirmed the first beta will be available to PlayStation 4 owners this coming weekend.

Black Ops 4, which is out in October, marks a major step-change for the long-standing franchise because it will be the first in the series a central story mode has not featured.

Instead, Black Ops 4 will revolve around multiplayer – which will be previewed during the beta – as well as a bigger Zombies mode and Blackout, Call of Duty’s take on battle royale to challenge the likes of Fortnite.

The latest trailer not only gives players an idea of what to expect from this year’s multiplayer, but also confirms players will have access to 10 characters across six maps and six game modes.

There will also be new weapons, equipment and scoring systems in place to be tried out.

A second beta weekend beginning on August 10 has also been confirmed, which will enable Xbox One players to try out the game for the first time.

PC players will get a chance to join in from August 10.

The trailer also features another glimpse of Blackout, which is due to have its own beta preview in September – which will be the first time players see the long-running series’ take on battle royale, which has exploded in popularity over the last year thanks to the cultural phenomenon that is Fortnite.
