EE has unveiled two new high-speed home broadband plans it says are aimed at increasingly connected households.
The new Fibre Max 1 and Fibre Max 2 plans can achieve average download speeds of 145 Mbps and 300 Mbps respectively, the firm says.
In comparison, the most recent figures from regulator Ofcom clocked the current national average internet download speed at just over 46 Mbps.
The telecoms giant said that with the average UK home now containing 10 connected devices – a figure likely to continue rising – greater connectivity speeds are needed to handle increasing demand.
EE managing director of marketing Max Taylor said: “Our new fibre broadband plans are designed to support the demands of customers with increasingly connected homes and families.
“With the growth of 4K TV, smart home technology becoming more popular than ever, and more members of the family using the latest smartphones and tablets, we’re giving our customers the widest range of converged mobile and home broadband products in the UK, along with the best customer service, so they can enjoy the fastest speeds both in and out of the home.”
According to Ofcom statistics released in May, average internet speeds in the UK are on the rise but many consumers are still not taking advantage of superfast speeds on offer.
Ofcom’s figures said that only two in five UK households subscribed to a superfast broadband service despite 93% of UK premises now having access to superfast speeds.
EE said its new plans would be available to more than a million households at launch, with Fibre Max 1 costing £42 a month and Fibre Max 2 priced at £47 a month.
