Stealthing through the jungle and battling extreme weather will be at the heart of two of Square Enix’s upcoming adventure games from the Tomb Raider and Just Cause franchises.

The Japanese video games developer has just hosted its pre E3 press conference, where Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Just Cause 4 were prominent features.

The latest Tomb Raider sees Lara Croft fighting to prevent a Mayan apocalypse and, naturally, the setting around such a theme involves a lot of jungle landscapes.

During their showcase, game director Daniel Chayer-Bisson gave a preview of what’s called becoming One with the Jungle, a stealth mode that enables Lara to better navigate her surroundings and take down enemies as a result.

In Just Cause 4, Rico Rodriguez is heading to South America and the fictional country of Solis, where the extreme weather is not only designed to play havoc with the infrastructure in the game but also offer unusual gameplay opportunities.

Elsewhere during its showcase, Square Enix also teased a new collaboration on the way later this summer, that will see the universes of Monster Hunter World and Final Fantasy collide.

There was also a teaser for a brand new game, The Quiet Man, of which very little seems to be known other than the main protagonist is deaf and knows how to look after himself in a fight.

The teaser trailer for the game was also quite strange – starting out as live action before switching to game footage without much of an explanation.

Another new game among the highlights was the latest from PlatinumGames, the team behind the hugely successful Nier: Automata.

Called Babylon’s Fall, it appears to revolve around playing the role of a knight and the inevitable quests that is likely to involve. It’s due to be released next year.

Some had also hoped to get a first glimpse at a reported new Avengers-based game, but nothing was mentioned during the firm’s 30-minute showcase. However, with Sony due to hold its PlayStation event later on Monday, there is still time for more reveals from Square Enix.
