The biggest week in video games is almost upon us again, with E3 opening in Los Angeles on Tuesday – the annual convention that brings together the industry’s largest names.

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will all hold press conferences ahead of the three-day show opening, as will big-name developer studios including Bethesda, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts (EA).

Some of the headline-grabbing titles have already been announced or teased for full unveilings during E3 – here’s a look at the ones most likely to get attention.

FIFA 19

The arrival of the new Fifa each year is a big moment for football fans and gamers – a group of players who are hard-to-please and very vocal if things aren’t to their liking.

As a result, the reveal of a Fifa game is never without debate, and Fifa 19 will be no different when it is introduced during EA’s event on Saturday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been confirmed as the cover star, but little else is known about what’s new and different about the next instalment in the long-running series.

Which should mean there’s plenty to discuss once the trailer has been released.

Fallout 76

One of Bethesda’s biggest and most loved series, a brand new Fallout game, called Fallout 76, has already been confirmed – to the surprise of many coming less than three years after Fallout 4.

There have been rumours that 76 will be an online game rather than a sequel to previous Fallout titles, but for now little else about the game is known.

Anthem

First shown off at E3 last year, Anthem is the new franchise from BioWare, the studio behind the Mass Effect series.

The third-person shooter revolves around characters known as Freelancers who don customisable exosuits called Javelins.

Due to be released in early 2019, much is still to be revealed about the new universe.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Another game confirmed to be at E3 is a brand new Assassin’s Creed, which is to be named Odyssey, and by the looks of the logo and brief clip posted to Twitter, is taking the historical stealth series to ancient Greece.

On the heels of last year’s ancient Egypt-based Origins, the Ubisoft series appears to be moving to another well-known time period. Hopefully we’ll discover the full synopsis during E3.

Hitman 2

A surprise reveal on Thursday, Hitman 2 has not just been confirmed as being in development, but even has a release date already – November 13 this year.

The first trailer for the game is also live, it could well also make an appearance during one of the pre-E3 showcases, with more details on structure and narrative could be discussed.

Last of Us Part II

One of the most anticipated games of this year’s E3 is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed and multi-award winning The Last of Us.

Not since a dark trailer was released at Paris Games Week last October has anything been seen of the PlayStation exclusive, but that is expected to change during Sony’s event on Monday night.

Death Stranding

One of the most mysterious games currently in development, Death Stranding has been known of since E3 2016, with several new trailers having appeared since.

However the game still does not have a release date, and little about its actual gameplay or premise is known or understood.

Director Hideo Kojima would have it no other way – the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series is renowned as a mysterious character whose games can take years to come to fruition, if at all.

Big name actors Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) are the game’s central characters, but there is still plenty more to be revealed, which Sony is expected to do at E3 this year.

Spider-Man

One of the hits of last year’s E3, the latest take on the superhero is a PlayStation exclusive due to be released in September.

The open-world setting and environmental combat system caught the eye when it was shown off during Sony’s event, as did a cameo from Miles Morales – the character who succeeds Peter Parker in the role of Spider-Man.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The final part of the origin trilogy revolving around Lara Croft, Shadow was confirmed by Square Enix in March and is expected to feature heavily during their E3 showcase.

With the game due to be released in September, it’s highly likely more information and an extensive look at gameplay will be part of the game’s appearance at E3.
