Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 is officially embracing the battle royale gaming era by scrapping a story mode, but many other key elements remain.

The blockbuster franchise will once again play host to a high-octane and detailed multiplayer mode, while the popular Zombies gameplay is set to be bigger than ever.

Here’s everything you need to know about Black Ops 4.

Blackout

The rumours are true, Call Of Duty is embracing battle royale gaming. In an undoubted nod to the exploding popularity of the likes of Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Black Ops 4 will have its own Call Of Duty version called Blackout.

Developer Treyarch has confirmed this mode will feature the biggest map they have ever created for a Call Of Duty game, as well as characters, weapons and other features from the last 10 years of Black Ops games.

Players will be able to take part alone or in teams, as well as fight in air, land and sea vehicles in the last-player-standing setting.

Zombies

The ever-popular Zombies mode is also back in Black Ops 4, with a new cast of characters and the largest ever launch day range of content – with three fully-fledged adventures to be included at release.

These include the ancient gladiatorial setting of IX, the Titanic-based Voyage Of Despair and legacy map Blood Of The Dead.

This latest instalment of Zombies is also designed to be the most accessible to new players, with new custom difficulty settings and in-game tutorials being added to help those just discovering the gameplay.

Multiplayer

Still arguably the most popular way to play Call Of Duty, the multiplayer has been given a major revamp for Black Ops 4.

Gone are crazy player movements such as thrust jump and wall running, and instead we have new levels of customisation to weaponry, including new attachments for each individual weapon.

New health controls are also being introduced, which rather than automatically reviving player health, ask gamers to choose when to heal themselves, which Treyarch says will make the use of health as tactical a decision as choosing when to reload.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out on October 12.
