This year’s Call of Duty will include a dedicated multiplayer social space for the first time, known as Headquarters.

The setting, which takes on the appearance of an army base on the Normandy beaches, will feature mini-game firing ranges where players can hone their in-game skills on a range of weapons, as well as arenas in which they can challenge other players.

As the trailer introducing Headquarters shows, there will be live leaderboards overlooking the battle arenas, as well as the opportunity to socialise with other players and earn rewards and upgrades.

The growing phenomenon of esports is also covered, with players able to watch live Call of Duty esports matches in the dedicated Theatre area.

The concept could have been at least slightly inspired by Destiny’s The Tower, the futuristic shooter’s own social space. Destiny just so happens to have the same publisher, Activision.

Call of Duty WWII is out on November 3.
