Amazon has created a new version of its Echo smart speaker with a hands-free camera designed to help users see their outfits before heading out.
Like Amazon’s other smart speakers, the Echo Look can be controlled using your voice, but the big difference is a built-in depth-sensing camera, which the tech giant says is perfect for capturing photos of your various outfits.
Echo Look and Alexa can also provide advice on your fashion choices. Style Check uses machine learning algorithms and advice from fashion experts to offer a second opinion on what you’re wearing.
The software bases its input on fit, colour, styling and current trends, Amazon says.
The fashion conscious aspect of the Look aside, it still functions as a fully-fledged Alexa device, able to control lighting and other appliances and answer any queries you have.
It’s the latest in a series of smart speaker products, as the idea of having a virtual, AI assistant in the home becomes increasingly common.
Last month Google launched Google Home, its own entry into the market, in the UK for the first time.
Unfortunately for those keen to try out Echo Look, for now it appears to only be going on sale in the US for $199 – making it most expensive Echo device so far.
However Amazon does have a track record of soft launching Echo products in the US first before offering them more widely.
