Apple is to launch a series of new educational classes at all its Apple Stores that will focus on topics ranging from photography to music production and coding.

The how-to sessions, which are to be called Today At Apple, will range from learning the basics of art and design to professional level programmes on a range of subjects when they launch in May.

The technology giant has said it wants its stores to be community hubs as well as the place to go for the latest product.

“At the heart of every Apple Store is the desire to educate and inspire the communities we serve,” Apple retail boss Angela Ahrendts said.

“Today At Apple is one of the ways we’re evolving our experience to better serve local customers and entrepreneurs.

“We’re creating a modern-day town square, where everyone is welcome in a space where the best of Apple comes together to connect with one another, discover a new passion, or take their skill to the next level. We think it will be a fun and enlightening experience for everyone who joins.”

The programmes will be free to attend and will cater for all ages and skill levels. In some cases there will also be masterclasses offered by what Apple called “world-class artists, photographers and musicians.”

“For example, an iPhone user interested in photography can start with six How To sessions that cover shooting, organising, editing, and more,” the tech giant said.

“More advanced photographers can join experiential Photo Walks that leave the store to dive into techniques including light and shadow, portraits and storytelling. Going further, a Photo Lab features accomplished photographers on topics such as capturing candids, building a brand on social media or simply sharing their perspective.”

Among the programmes available will also be Kids Hour, where younger store visitors will be able to learn code programing Sphero robots and creating music with the GarageBand app.

Apple said classes on a range of topics will be available in all 495 of its retail stores worldwide.
