Ever since it was first teased at the E3 gaming show last year, the details surrounding Microsoft’s next console – codenamed Project Scorpio – had been craved by gaming fans.
Scorpio would be the most powerful console ever made, Xbox said, and now they’ve given Eurogamer the exclusive first look at what Scorpio will be powered by.
The specs are impressive. Scorpio is hitting the six teraflops of computing power it promised last year. In plain English, this is the measure by which a computer’s speed can be gauged. To put that mighty six teraflops into perspective, the current generation Xbox One comes in at around 1.32 teraflops.
That’s a fast, powerful console – indeed it’s a similar speed to high gaming PCs currently on the market.
Not only that, but Eurogamer revealed some early indicators on performance of Scorpio which will likely excite those keen to see advancements in 4K definition gaming.
Initial reaction to the reveal was positive, but with a tinge of warning about Xbox’s need to catch up to Sony and the PlayStation.

According to the report, during their encounter with Scorpio they saw Forza Motorsport running in native 4K definition at 60 frames per second – high-end visuals – but with substantial processing power still left unused for further visual improvements.Should you want to take a deeper dive into the specs and exactly what we can expect from the Scorpio, you can do so here.However, we still don’t know the official name, price tag or release date for the console.Details on at least one of these aspects will hopefully come at E3 in June.
