Actress Roxanne Pallett has won a fight over legal costs with a newspaper group after agreeing a settlement to her phone-hacking complaint.

A High Court judge was told that Pallett, 38, who appeared in ITV soap Emmerdale between 2005 and 2008, had brought a phone-hacking complaint against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) more than two years ago and agreed a £99,500 settlement late in 2020.

But the actress and MGN disagreed over whether the newspaper group should also pick up her lawyers’ fees.

MGN argued that Pallett did not engage “properly in a settlement process”. Pallett disputed that argument.

Mr Justice Mann on Tuesday ruled in her favour and concluded that she should have “all the costs of the proceedings”.

He heard that Pallett’s claim had been one of a batch listed for trial this month.
