Taron Egerton has told fans the upcoming Robin Hood movie will be unlike previous iterations and instead similar in tone to Peaky Blinders.
The Welsh actor is playing the title role in Robin Hood, following in the footsteps of stars such as Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner.
But Egerton said his version of the heroic outlaw will differ from Crowe’s 2010 portrayal and Costner’s 1991 Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
According to the Daily Mirror, the 28-year-old Kingsman star said the upcoming film will have more in common with gritty period drama Peaky Blinders, thanks to director Otto Bathurst, who worked on both projects.
He said: “I think it will be less self-reverential than the Robin Hoods that have come before. I think the problem with Robin Hood sometimes is that… I love the Kevin Costner one and I think there were some great moments in the Russell Crowe one as well, but they’re very, very, very ‘Robin Hood-y’.

“Ours is less Robin Hood-y. It’s grittier, it’s darker, it’s a Robin Hood for the 21st Century. If you’ve seen Peaky Blinders, you’ll know something of the tone of it as it’s the same director.”
Egerton stars alongside Jamie Foxx as Little John, Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck, and Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlet.
The reveal trailer for the movie was released in May and showed Egerton swinging on ropes, wielding a bow and arrow and stealing bags of gold.
Robin Hood will be released in the UK on November 21.
