Ariana Grande fended off tears as Jimmy Fallon paid an emotional tribute to her efforts following the terror attack at her Manchester Arena show.

The pop star also unveiled details of her hotly anticipated fourth album during her appearance on the chat show host’s programme.

In May last year, Grande’s concert in Manchester was targeted by suicide bomber Salman Abedi, who detonated a home-made device in the foyer of the arena, killing 22 people.

She returned to the city two weeks later to hold a benefit concert.

Fallon told the 24-year-old singer: “I just wanted to say thank you so much for coming on the show and for being strong and for entertaining and for showing up and going back to Manchester and doing a benefit. I thought that was awesome of you and I just think you’re so strong and so cool.”

Grande welled up during his comments, and thanked him, but did not speak further about the Manchester attack.

Fallon then read a message written by Grande last year, saying: “We won’t let hate win. Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder, and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.”

The music star appeared emotional as he read her words.

Grande, who recently released her first single since the terror attack, No Tears Left To Cry, confirmed her new album will be released this summer and is called Sweetener.

Explaining the title, she said: “It’s kind of about bringing light to a situation or someone’s life, or somebody else who brings light to your life – sweetening the situation.”

Grande teased fans by revealing that tracks include God Is A Woman, The Light Is Coming and Raindrops.
