A 16-year-old girl who has a cardboard cutout of Sir Tom Jones in her room screamed with delight when she made it on to his team on The Voice.

Eliza Gutteridge, from the Lake District, sang a version of Wild Horses by Birdy, and was snapped up by Sir Tom who was the only coach to turn.

The teenager described Sir Tom as her “hero” and told him: “I’m literally your biggest fan.”

The starstruck singer added: “I do have a cardboard cutout of you in my room.”

Sir Tom told Eliza that she had a “special, special voice”, adding: “You sound like an individual singer.”

Eliza had more cause for celebration due to the fact her best friend Anna, 17, also made it through.

Anna picked Will.i.am, who told the teenager: “You could have a 20 year career and still be, like, young.”

Olly Murs expressed his dismay at not having turned around, and said: “I hate myself. I’m stupid. I want you to come and slap me in the face.”
