Francis Rossi has admitted he has not cried following the death of his Status Quo band mate Rick Parfitt nearly a year ago.
Parfitt was 68 when he died from a severe infection in a Spanish hospital on Christmas Eve.
Rossi said he felt his colleague had already died several months earlier when he suffered a heart attack in Turkey, forcing him to pull out of their shows.
He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “It was interesting, he died, for us, in June in Turkey and I saw the whole thing going on on the floor.
“It wasn’t very nice at all. He got pulled off this bed, his feet were crossed and I don’t know why but I got down and uncrossed his feet while the medics were working on him.
“He finally got over that a little, he wasn’t the same person he was. I got home Christmas Eve morning and I was talking to my manager and he said Rick had gone.
“I heard in my mind Rick say, ‘There you go, at least I didn’t die on a show day’. That’d be Rick. We had that weird humour going on between us.”
Rossi, 68, added: “Some people said I haven’t cried yet for Rick. I won’t. It’s just not what we did or how we were.
“We used to joke about the fact that he would go, when he would go, or I would go and how it would happen.
“We would just sit there giggling, I suppose about the seriousness of it and yet to us it was funny.”
Rossi and Parfitt worked together for around 50 years in the veteran rock band, who had hits such as Down Down, Whatever You Want and Rockin’ All Over The World.
