She is famous for her good looks – but Dame Joan Collins does not put her appearance solely down to expensive beauty creams or a good diet.

The star of 1979 film The Bitch says it has a lot to do with being nice.

“You know, I think one of the reasons that I look the way I do is that I don’t have venom in my soul. I don’t hate”, she tells comedian John Bishop.

“When I read some abominable thing that somebody has done to somebody… I will hate that, but I try to live as simple a life as I possibly can in terms of my feelings and my attitudes and my friends.”

But the 84-year-old adds: “I can be considered a bitch because I think I can be quite witty and wit often is bitchiness.”

The British actress says, on TV series John Bishop In Conversation With, that most dramas now portray women “at each other’s throats” because of Dynasty.

Dame Joan played Alexis Carrington, who famously feuded with Linda Evans’ character Krystle, in the hit 1980s drama.

She  says that the characters’ animosity towards each other started a trend.

“We were the first ones to do it and now practically every TV show you see of that genre, has two women at each other’s throats,” she says.

Asked whether the actresses did not get on in real life, she adds: “We are just so different. We had nothing whatsoever in common.”

The star, who has found love with her fifth husband Percy Gibson, says that there has been a “huge amount of heartbreak and heartache” in her life despite it looking glamorous from the outside.

John Bishop In Conversation With Dame Joan Collins airs on Thursday November 9 at 9pm on W.
