Stranger Things has been praised for accurately capturing what it was like to live in the ’80s, thanks to pop culture references to films, music, toys and technologies of that decade.
But a scene in the opening episode of the second season of the Netflix hit series has had fans debating a reference to KFC.
Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Nancy Wheeler (Natalie Dyer) are having dinner with Barb’s parents – tucking into a meal ordered from the fast food chain – when, in what appears to be a likely anachronism, Steve says: “I love KFC.”
The fast food brand didn’t change its name from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC until 1991 – which fans were quick to note.
Just one thing #StrangerThings it was not KFC in 1984.We were still fully capable of complex full words back then.

First Stranger Things Inaccuracy: Steve refers to Kentucky Fried Chicken as KFC in 1984…

In Stranger Things S02E01 they refer to Kentucky Fried Chicken as KFC, but didn't everyone in the 80s still call it Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Era-error in #StrangerThings "KFC" was mentioned. No one called it that back then, did they? Wasn't it still Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Love Stranger Things, but nobody I know I called Kentucky Fried Chicken "KFC" in the mid-eighties.

Although one person begged to differ…
Super urgent Stranger Things note: In junior high in Kansas in the 80s my bestie and I made fun of people who said "KFC." They def existed

Steve also made reference to the brand’s famous slogan “finger lickin’ good!”, which went down well with some of the viewers.
