Did you spot this anachronism in the opening episode of Stranger Things 2?

KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken?
KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken? KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Stranger Things has been praised for accurately capturing what it was like to live in the ’80s, thanks to pop culture references to films, music, toys and technologies of that decade.

But a scene in the opening episode of the second season of the Netflix hit series has had fans debating a reference to KFC.

Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Nancy Wheeler (Natalie Dyer) are having dinner with Barb’s parents – tucking into a meal ordered from the fast food chain – when, in what appears to be a likely anachronism, Steve says: “I love KFC.”

The fast food brand didn’t change its name from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC until 1991 – which fans were quick to note.

Although one person begged to differ…

Steve also made reference to the brand’s famous slogan “finger lickin’ good!”, which went down well with some of the viewers.

And if all this has left you craving for some chicken nuggets, KFC wants you to check out its “Eleven piece bucket”.
