Former Strictly Come Dancing star Ed Balls has revisited his most famous routine.

The ex-Labour MP was the star of the 2016 series of the show, winning legions of fans for his eccentric routines and his salsa to Gangnam Style, with partner Katya Jones, was shortlisted for a Bafta.

He performed a snippet of the routine in a comedy dream sequence on a Halloween-themed Strictly – It Takes Two.

As Jones and new partner Joe McFadden said they think she has finally shaken off “the ghost of Ed Balls”, he appeared performing the lasso move from his famous routine, telling her: “A lady never forgets her first love.”

Later he admitted his disappointment that he never performed a rumba on the competition show as he was eliminated before he got to try his hand at the Latin dance.

He said: “My biggest disappointment is that I never did the rumba because I wanted to show my rumba side.”

Balls said he does not mind seeing Jones dancing with the Holby City star, even saying the 10 score McFadden achieved for his last routine was well deserved.

He said: “She’s a genius and a brilliant teacher and a great choreographer.

“I would like to say Joe was over-marked with that 10 but he wasn’t.”

Balls also tipped This Morning star Ruth Langsford and TV chef Simon Rimmer to land in the dance-off this week, saying: “I think clearly Ruth and Simon have got to show passion and commitment and drive and improvement because once you’re in the dance-off a couple of times, it’s hard to get out of it.

“But I think they both can, you could end up with two people we don’t expect in the dance-off and that is when things get really spicy.”

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One on Saturday at 6.35pm.
