Strictly Come Dancing fans have hit out at Anton Du Beke after his comments about working with presenter Ruth Langsford.

The pair were the second to perform on Saturday night’s movie-themes round, dancing a rumba to James Bond classic Diamonds Are Forever.

But after their efforts earned them a mere 15 points out of 40 from the judges, he joked: “If we add up our whole marks for the first three shows I still don’t think we would score 42. It’s going to be quite some journey this, I tell you. By March I reckon we’ll be on about 45 points.”

But viewers were unimpressed by the comments and took to Twitter to criticise him for showing little faith in his partner.

Francesca Falluto commented: “Alright Anton. Way to make her feel better…#strictly #SCD2017

“I don’t find Anton funny..#Strictly,” added another person, while another commented: “I wish Anton du Beke would shut up #Strictly.”

Meanwhile, others were stunned by Langsford’s costume, which included a wig of long golden locks.

While judge Darcey Bussell said she should “hold on” to the look, one fan tweeted: “Ruth looks lovely with long hair!! #Strictly.”

As the judges gave out their critique, Du Beke interrupted to say of his moment on the dance floor with Langsford: “I had a lovely time…I felt fabulous.”
