Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has left viewers confused after criticising Debbie McGee for “breaking the 10-second rule”.

The entertainer, and partner Giovanni Pernice, earned a healthy score for their quickstep to Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off from the film Shall We Dance? in Saturday night’s episode of the BBC One show.

But the famously critical judge told them: “You broke the 10 second rule… you’re only allowed to have 10 seconds in the routine out of hold so I have to mark it down for that.”

Loyal show fans, who had never heard of the rule before, took to Twitter in protest – with many asking if it had anything to do with the rule about eating food that has fallen on the floor.

“Is that the same as the one about dropping food on the floor? #scd #strictly2017,” asked Laura Thomson.

Another added: “I thought that only applied to dropping food on the floor?”

Unconvinced by Revel Horwood’s technical dance knowledge, one person said of the judge: “Makes it up as he goes along.”

The pair received positive comments from the rest of the panel.
