James Corden is to be presented with the first ever entertainer of the year prize at the Rose d’Or Awards.

The Late Late Show host, 39, will be handed the gong at a ceremony in Berlin later in September.

The inaugural award, given by organisers the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), has been created to recognise the contribution to the world of entertainment of one individual over the previous 12 months.

Corden has presented the Late, Late Show in the US since 2015 and has had a huge hit with his Carpool Karaoke segment.

Jeroen Depraetere, EBU’s head of television and future media, said: “There couldn’t be a more perfect recipient of the first Rose d’Or Entertainer of the Year Award than James Corden.

“The international impact of Corden’s imaginative and very funny work in the last year has been huge.

“When you can get the former First Lady of the USA to join in, you know you have a huge hit and this award recognises James Corden’s enormous talent and creativity.”

Trophies will be given out in other categories including reality and factual entertainment, arts, game show, entertainment, comedy, drama series, sitcom, TV movie, children and youth and virtual reality.

Murder, She Wrote star Dame Angela Lansbury is to be honoured with the prestigious Rose d’Or award for lifetime achievement.

The award recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to entertainment throughout their careers and previous recipients include John Cleese and Stephen Fry.
