She tweeted: “I’m proud to announce I’m a mummy – my beautiful baby girl arrived over the summer (much earlier than planned) a gorgeous girl called Charlotte.”

The weather presenter has been married to husband Dean Brown since 2010 and this is their first child.

Baby Charlotte was born prematurely as she was due to arrive near the end of October.

Following the short announcement on air, Reid said: “Little Charlotte came a bit earlier than planned and she is being very well looked after in hospital.

“Laura and her husband, Dean, they’re with her every day and Charlotte’s growing in size and strength.

“Laura described her baby as beautiful and of course she is, and she has dark hair, just like her mummy. ”

Tobin revealed she was pregnant during her live weather report in May.

She announced she would be having her own “little ray of sunshine” in October.

In reference to a floral dress she was wearing at the time of the announcement, she said: “As we head into September things will be blooming but it won’t just be my dress, because I’m very pleased to let everybody know that, come the end of October, I’ll be having my own little ray of sunshine.

“I am having a baby.”

She added: “And I would like to say that nobody knows – none of my family, my aunties, uncles, cousins, no-one in the Met Office.

“My parents, my husband’s parents and our editor Neil (know).”

Reid said: “I’ve got a little tear in my eye Laura. I think that’s the best, the best.”

Tobin later posted on Twitter: “Happy to say the long range forecast is blooming & that’s not just the weather. I forecast a ray of sunshine by the end of October #Baby.”
