Comedian Jack Whitehall took a light-hearted swipe at Jamie Redknapp after the former England star tripped him up on the pitch of the Game4Grenfell football match.

He re-tweeted a clip of the moment on Twitter and jokingly demanded “retrospective action” for the “gruesome foul”.

Before kick-off at QPR’s Loftus Road stadium, he brushed off an arm injury and said: “I think they want me to go up against Jamie Redknapp. It’s kind of unfair but they think it will be funny.

“Today is an amazing cause, a thing that everybody wanted to get involved in. It’s wonderful and I’m really pleased to be a part of it.”

The actor and comedian, 29, joined a swathe of stars who shared highlights from the day after taking part in the charity game.

TV presenter Ben Shephard shared some locker room selfies of the celebrity team and wrote: “What an incredible day #Game4Grenfell it was a very special occasion and a privilege to be part of. Thanks for all the messages + support.”

Singer Olly Murs similarly posted: “Unbelievable day! #Game4Grenfell. The victims & survivors will never be forgotten”.

While she did not take part in the match herself, singer Cheryl made an appearance at the event and later posted: “Big love to everyone who came to the #Game4Grenfell today 🙌🏼 and shout out to the players.. 🙏🏼 to donate £3 text Grenfell to 70007.”

The stadium, which houses some 20,000, erupted in cheers as the likes of Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and former England goalkeeper David Seaman ran on to the pitch with the stars and firefighters who were involved in the tragedy.

All ticket money is going to the Evening Standard’s fund for those touched by the disaster, which claimed at least 80 lives in June.

About 2,000 complimentary tickets were given to those directly affected, including residents, relatives of the victims, volunteers and members of the emergency services.

The game, which saw two teams led by former England strikers Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand go head to head, ended in a draw.

It was also supported by music performances from singers including Rita Ora, Marcus Mumford and Emeli Sande.
