Pink and Dua Lipa are racing to be the first female solo artist to top the singles charts in almost two years.

If either bags the top spot they will be the first solo woman to reach number one on the Official Singles Charts since Adele, who nabbed the spot in October 2015 with Hello.

British singer Dua Lipa is currently leading the way with her single New Rules, which has climbed from number five to number one in the midweek rankings.

Pink is currently heading for number two with her track What About Us, which has surged up the chart from 83, but Dua Lipa is just 512 combined sales ahead, the Official Charts Company said.

Feels by Calvin Harris featuring Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean, which was number one on Friday, has slipped to number three but could still regain prime position as it is just 1,300 combined sales behind Dua Lipa at the halfway point of the week.

Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber is holding steady at number four while Wild Thoughts by DJ Khaled featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller drops from three to five.

On the album charts Elvis Presley could topple Ed Sheeran from the top spot.

As fans mark 40 years since Presley’s death on August 16, The 50 Greatest Hits is leading the race for Friday’s number one.

It is less than 200 combined chart sales ahead of Ed Sheeran’s ÷, which has not left the top three since it was released 23 weeks ago.

If Presley goes to the top of the charts he will extend his record as the soloist with the most UK number one albums with 14 number ones.
