Will Smith raps with James Corden in Carpool Karaoke series premiere
Will Smith has revealed as they shared a ride together during the first episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series that he only pretended to recognise James Corden during their first meeting.
Corden, who rapped along with the actor during the show, said he felt he could count Smith among his fans after their first encounter at an awards ceremony, but the Hollywood star said it had been a sham.
The first episode of the series based on a segment from The Late Late Show With James Corden was made available in the early hours of Wednesday on Apple Music.
As they drove around Los Angeles, the Hollywood star, 48, said: “It was the first time we met. We talked and it was, ‘Ah man you know it’s great, I love what you do’… we did all of that.
“I didn’t really know you then. I had to look you up after.”
Corden, laughing, said: “I remember it so clearly. I think I even text a friend of mine and I was like, ‘Dude, Will Smith is so into me – it’s incredible’.”
The episode saw the pair take to the air in a helicopter before Smith supposedly abandoned Corden on top of the US Bank skyscraper in Los Angeles.
They also rapped along to Smith’s musical hits, including The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air theme and Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It.
Smith mocked Corden, 38, after the Briton said he had a “rap troupe” at school, and his pseudonym was “Chub Nasty”.
Corden is an executive producer on the show and will appear in some of the episodes.
Miley Cyrus, John Legend and Ariana Grande are among the stars who will feature in the online show.
