The 61-year-old said: “No, some people come up to me and say ‘I’ve seen your work and you’ve done loads and loads of s***e, but now you’ve done Breaking Bad and other things’… those people you just have to dismiss.”

Viewers were amused and quick to point out the actor had dropped a swear word, following a discussion on the show about swearing in front of children.

GMB viewer @tracydnothyroid wrote: “Just after a spot re: swearing, what does he do, swear live on telly!!! Oops!!!”

Another amused viewer, @nickstaniforth, tweeted: “Bryan Cranston just dropped ‘s***e’ on @GMB following a piece about kids not swearing. Just brilliant.”

The actor also discussed his latest film, Wakefield, which sees him play a married man who vanishes suddenly, but stays hidden in the background as he watches his family from afar.

He stars alongside actress Jennifer Garner and describing his character Cranston told GMB: “Howard Wakefield pushes the pause button (on life), but he can’t unstick it.”

Cranston commented on the gender divide in Hollywood, saying: “I can’t complain about it, but I think honestly there’s probably a double standard to that, I think it’s a lot more difficult with women.

“There’s an old phrase that said Hollywood eats up women in their 20s and spits them out in their 30s because it’s so harsh. We love youth and beauty and we embrace that.

“But women have a more difficult time. When they say a man, he’s getting dignified, a woman, oh is getting older now and it’s unfortunate.”
