Music fans have been left shocked, but torn, over the news that Psy’s dance hit Gangnam Style has lost its title of most-watched YouTube video to Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s See You Again.

The bizarre five-year-old ear-worm, along with the catchy dance moves, swept across the globe after its 2012 release by the South Korean singer.

After the track was made famous again in the UK by Ed Balls’ unforgettable Strictly Come Dancing rendition last year, the original official video has now racked up a total of more than 2,894,798,000 views.

But the emotional See You Again, written in 2015 for the Furious 7 movie soundtrack and as a tribute to actor Paul Walker who died during filming, has now overtaken the previously unbeaten figure with almost 2,896,510,900 views.

The news has been a long time coming for some, who posted comments such as, “Finally” and, “Shame it took so long!” on Twitter.

Others, meanwhile, chose the humorous approach and made tongue-in-cheek jokes over Psy’s loss…

…and even threatened to fight back.

On the other hand, some struggled to understand how such a completely different track could have become just as popular in less than half the time.

Furious 7 writer Gary Scott Thompson will bring back star Vin Diesel for the next instalment of the action movie franchise, Fast & Furious 9, in 2019.
