Kate Garraway joked that she was going to be “really annoying” and rant a lot while filling in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The TV presenter sat alongside regular hosts Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins on the breakfast programme as Morgan, who co-hosts the show three days a week, had the day off.

Opening the show along with Reid, Garraway said: “It’s lovely to be here on a Monday. It made Sunday night interesting, I’ve had a break from that for a while, that Sunday night ‘I’ve got to go to bed’ feeling.”

She told viewers: “I’ll try and be really annoying, and rant a lot and talk a lot.”

Former GMTV star Garraway appeared shocked as she reacted to audio from her earpiece and said: “The producer just said you don’t need to try. How rude!”

Reid and Hawkins quipped that Morgan’s absence was perhaps down to them.

Reid said: “Charlotte, is this because we took him down last week?”

Hawkins said: “Do you think he’s hiding? Until the coast is clear?”

The outspoken host was last week silenced during a discussion about social media, which saw him vent about people sharing their political views too much on Facebook, before Reid revealed she thought his stance was hypocritical.

Laughing, Reid added: “No, I think he just had a big day yesterday so he’ll be back tomorrow.”

Morgan spent Sunday at a charity cricket game along with the likes of Freddie Flintoff and Robbie Savage.

Reid shared a picture of herself with Garraway and Hawkins on Twitter during the broadcast, declaring it a “rare Morgan-free Monday”, before adding that “we miss you really”.
