A nine-piece a cappella group made up of former choir boys are the latest contestants to reach the Pitch Battle grand final.

All The King’s Men – an all-male group hailing from King’s College London – beat off competition from Welsh choir Sgarmes in the final battle of Saturday night’s show.

After four other choirs were eliminated in a series of rounds, the remaining two groups took it in turns to perform guest judge Bebe Rexha’s Take Me Home before the singer joined All The King’s Men, indicating they had won the episode.

The group told host Mel Giedroyc they were “completely overwhelmed” by the win.

They will return to the Pitch Battle studio alongside Rexha in the grand final at the end of the month.

Rexha said: “I just want to see what’s next for them. I think it’s exciting. I feel like this is what us 20-year-olds want.”

Gareth Malone said: “I’m so happy that a really innovative, British a cappella group have come to the fore. It’s great.”

Sgarmes still have a chance of reaching the grand final as the judges will offer one of the runners-up a wild card entry.

:: Pitch Battle returns on Saturday July 8 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
