Sir Paul McCartney’s daughters Stella and Mary have led the tributes as the singer celebrated his 75th birthday.

The singer, songwriter and Beatles legend’s landmark birthday fell on the same day as Father’s Day – and his children made sure to pay their respects to their dad for that occasion too.

Designer Stella shared on Instagram a photo of herself cuddling up to her dad, who she said inspires her every day.

She wrote: “Happy birthday and happy Father’s Day dad … I am so blessed to have you in my heart and soul, you inspire every day. I love you x Stella.”

Mary, a photographer, opted to post a snap of her “daddy cool” riding a horse in a sun-drenched field.

“Happy Birthday daddy cool @paulmccartney plus Happy Father’s Day too! X,” she wrote.

The wife of late Beatles star George Harrison, Olivia, and his son Dhani left a happy birthday message on the social networking site with a black and white photograph of Harrison feeding Sir Paul ice cream.

Yoko Ono, the wife of John Lennon, also shared a message on Twitter.

The superstar singer, whose career has spanned 55 years and has secured him a place as one of the biggest stars in the history of the British music industry, has just been named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Twenty years after he was knighted by the Queen, Sir Paul was upgraded with a Companion of Honour for services to music.

Fans flooded Twitter on Sunday to pay their respects to Sir Paul on his birthday, sharing hundreds of throwback photos from across his career and airing their gratitude for his contribution to music.
