Quaint shop fronts, reams of fairy lights and garden flowers galore will take over this year’s Big Brother house as the series returns with a new English country village theme.

First-look pictures shared ahead of the new season’s launch next week show the revamped house celebrating all things British in the lead up to the General Election.

The living area has been decked out with stone-look sofas, floral cushions, faux shop windows and even some ornamental pugs, all festooned with British flags and flower garlands.

Meanwhile, the garden is already looking resplendent with a pagoda, neatly trimmed hedges and an ornate hot tub – complete with fake ducks – all set against a sunny country backdrop.

A spokesperson for the Channel 5 reality programme said: “At a time of political upheaval and tough questions about unity in the UK, Big Brother brings you an alternative look at Britain.

“Standby for a very British summer of contrasts, conflicts and collaboration, and more fireworks than you could imagine, as a selection of people, from a range of backgrounds, come together in the ultimate social experiment.”

Presenter Emma Willis will return for this year’s visit to the house as it welcomes its new selection of housemates on Monday.

Creators have already promised a series full of new tasks, twists and surprises.

Spin-off programme Big Brother’s Bit On the Side will also be coming back to screens with host Rylan Clark-Neal and a variety of celebrity guest panellists.

Big Brother returns to Channel 5 at 8:30pm on Monday.
