Ed Balls is keeping fans guessing about whether he would recreate his Gangnam Style routine if he picks up a Bafta TV Award.

The former politician is attending the ceremony with Strictly dance partner Katya Jones, and he said he was thrilled to be up for a gong.

Ed stepped out as a sudden deluge of rain hit the horde of celebrities making their way into the awards.

He said: “There are moments in Britain where no umbrella is up to it.”

He added: “It’s very exciting to be here, it’s the first time I’ve been to the Baftas, it’s been chilly, but it’s glamorous and exciting and Katya has the best dress of the night.

“I think we are really pleased to be nominated, it was a great season for Strictly, I think it was a few days after Donald Trump was elected, it was a wild moment in the world and we did a salsa to end all salsas.

“But the snakes were brilliant, Michelle Obama was brilliant, Line Of Duty was brilliant.”

Asked if he would recreate the routine if it won the prize, he replied: “Katya is not dressed for Gangnam Style. I can definitely do it, but I think we will look at the video.”

Danny Dyer, one of Ed’s rivals for the award, said he was still in shock from the nominated moment when he learned he is a direct descendent of Edward III.

He said: “I didn’t believe it and I still don’t believe it. I try and use it but no-one believes me.“How do you get your head around it? I am royalty and hopefully we can nick a little award for it.“Me and my relatives up against Line Of Duty and Game Of Thrones, it could go either way but, just for my ancestors, it would be nice to nick it.“Edward III lives on through me.”
