Doctor Who suffered a drop in viewers for the third episode of the BBC sci-fi show.
Around 3.8 million tuned in for Saturday night’s instalment, Thin Ice, starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.
The figures show a fall from the 4.3 million who watched episode two and 4.6 million who tuned in for the first instalment of the new series, which is Capaldi’s last.
But numbers are expected to rise substantially once catch-up figures are taken into account.
The episode saw Capaldi’s Doctor and his sidekick Bill, played by Pearl Mackie, travel to 1814 London where they tackled racism and child slavery.
The series is the last to be overseen by Steven Moffat, who has been in charge since 2010.
The BBC has previously denied reports that Death In Paradise star Kris Marshall had been cast as Capaldi’s replacement.
Britain’s Got Talent, on ITV, also suffered a drop in viewers but was the most watched programme of the night.
The show averaged 8.3 million (a 41% share) and peaked at 9.4 million.
It marked a fall on the 9.2 million who watched episode two, which drew the biggest TV audience of the year so far.
