Student life can be a rollercoaster – but never more literally than for this group.
A group from Staffordshire University celebrated their graduation with a ceremony on a ride at local theme park Alton Towers.
The students were graduating from the university’s visitor attraction and resort management foundation course, which is thought to be the only degree of its kind – and the ceremony on the Oblivion ride to mark the occasion was similarly unique.
According to Alton Towers, it was the first graduation to take place on a rollercoaster – although the students did also experience a more traditional ceremony on Tuesday.
Oblivion, marketed as the “world’s first vertical drop rollercoaster”, sees riders overhang a 60-metre drop before zooming straight down, experiencing a G force of up to 4.5.
Students on the two-year course each complete a work placement at Alton Towers, near Alton in Staffordshire, as part of their degree.
