An endangered baby rhino has been born at a zoo in the United States.

The girl, weighing 112 pounds, arrived on Friday to mother Ayana at Blank Park Zoo in Iowa.

Eastern black rhinos are critically endangered, with around 880 estimated to be left in Africa.

Dr June Olds, Blank Park Zoo veterinary programme officer, said: “It went really well. The birth went really well. The baby stood within the first hour of life. And then started nursing within the second hour. So everything was really textbook, ideal situation.”
