A Twitter challenge asking users to type their birthday and “Florida man” into Google has become a viral hit, with people sharing outrageous news headlines generated from the search.

User @g_pratimaaa began the trend, tweeting: “EVERYBODY google “florida man” followed by your birthday (florida man august 22) and tell me what you get. mine is Florida Man tries to attack neighbor with tractor.”

The idea soon began trending as #FloridaManChallege, with a strange news story about a Florida man seemingly published on every day of the year.

Singer-songwriter John Legend was one of many to join in, replying with a screenshot of a headline from his birthday on December 28.

It read: “Florida man drops stolen TV from getaway scooter.”

Comedian Katherine Ryan retweeted a screenshot of the challenge, which originally began on Tumblr, writing: “Florida man’s penis shot could land him in jail.”

Rapper 50 Cent revealed his generated answer: “Florida man says organized, aggressive monkeys swarming property.”

Some users were unable to choose a single headline, with the search bringing up more than one funny news story.

American sports journalist Rich Eisen took a screen grab of his results, which included the headlines “Florida man uses his sign on his car to find love” and “South Florida man gives condoms love handles”, adding he was unable to choose between them.

Users pointed out the challenge had changed their opinion of the Florida population, with @shablonde writing: “If the #FloridaManChallege taught me anything today it’s that I’m never dating a man from Florida as long as I live on this earth.”

Another user, @itsnotriss, put: “idk who “florida man” is but sounds like he’s had a rough year.”
