If you thought you’d done a pretty nifty job growing out your stache for Movember, prepare to be put to shame by a couple of monkeys.

Auckland Zoo has introduced its two newest arrivals – a pair of emperor tamarin monkeys which have facial hair to die for.

Our emperor tamarins have arrived! We’re excited to announce that Ladino and Pacino have arrived! Our two moustachioed monkeys arrived at Auckland Airport a few weeks ago from Perth Zoo in Western Australia and are currently fulfilling their international quarantine at our on-site Vet Hospital. We wholeheartedly agree with Warren, our Curator of Mammals, when he says our emperor tamarins are magnificent! With a ‘regal-like’ white moustache, a marvellous silver coat and stunning orange tail – we can’t wait for you to meet them. The emperor tamarin is a species native to the Amazon Basin in South America which is, very obviously, noted for its luxurious facial furniture.

Its name may or may not be a reference to Kaiser Wilhelm II, though frankly the comparison is underpowered given the striking nature of that monkey mo.

The pair at Auckland Zoo, named Ladino and Pacino, have just arrived in the country having been brought in from Perth Zoo in Western Australia.

They’re being checked out by vets while they go through a quarantine period on site before being unveiled, face fuzz and all, to the visiting public.

By way of comparison, here’s a big group of competitors at this year’s British Beard and Moustache Championships in Blackpool back in August.

Nice try, humans, but we think the monkey has it.
